I got way too confident playing poker once and it cost me a ton. I was holding a pair of tens, and the flop came with a ten, so I hit trips. I figured no one could beat me, so I started betting big. I didn’t notice the guy next to me was slowly building a flush. On the river, he hit his flush and took me out completely. I should’ve seen it coming, but I was too focused on my own hand. That’s when I realized that knowing how to play poker alone doesn’t help when you can’t read your opponents’ strategies.
